Would you take time aside out of your busy day to be placed somewhere on Wellington’s coast? Would you take a stranger there to buy them an ice-cream? Would you get down and dirty in the club? ELB644 is multiple experiments housed in a ‘rent by the hour’ carshare van over a handful of days roaming different areas of the CBD. These tests will fuel the development of a new work Epic Little Bay, led by Jacob Dombroksi. For Jacob, Island Bay is his current tūrangawaewae, where he feels the most grounded in the world. He’s keen to share it with you, but also always wants to know where the next party is. Let’s come together to connect with ourselves, tīpuna, family & friends and meet some new people on the way.
Jacob Dombroski, nēe Te Amo (Ngāti Porou / Ngāi Tūhoe / Asau, Samoa) has been performing professionally for the past five years. Jacobs' heart and spirit have shone through in award winning productions like Wake Up Tomorrow and No Post On Sunday at Circa Theatre. In 2017 he began developing his solo work Big J Stylez to start to tell his story as well as creating the vessel to land his dream role as the bartender Winston Kimiora on Shortland Street. Epic Little Bay is the next waka to support his journey to deeper connect with his Māoritanga and just share good vibes.
Tola Newbury (Ngāi Tūhoe) is an innovative multi-disciplinary arts practitioner creating beautiful surrealist performative works such as Poropiti with Mara TK. He’s currently creating Toi Āmai: Papa in collaboration with a team of award-winning collaborators who share the kaupapa of Mana Motuhake Māori. An indigenous inter-arts work that shines a lens on our responsibility to protect Papatūānuku through climate action and understanding ‘interconnections’ between people and the world around us. He met Jacob while he was rehearsing Ka Tito Au and they bonded instantly supporting each other through their respective processes he’s keen to jump in the van and see where Epic Little Bay takes us.
Everybody Cool Lives Here produces art that reflects and celebrates Aotearoa’s unique and diverse identity. We connect artists and groups and empower them to create dialogue within the wider community. We bring the marginalised to the middle and support those at the fringes to drive the conversation.
