Dani and Charley, accordion and cello, present a quizzical and enigmatic real life musical box. Drop by the corner of the store to hear the characterful and colourful duo wind up and conjure tunes infused by Eastern European flavours. Like something from your childhood brought to life – there is enchantment and quirkiness with these two musical maestros. You might hum along in the most unconventional of spaces as your mind searches for the words to describe the palette of musical flavours in verses. You’ll savour what you hear and favour your ears with joyful delight and sound.
Daniela Mogin is an accordionist, pianist and songwriter based in Wellington, New Zealand. Having been a long-time member of the Balkinistas (RIP), Dani's music is steeped in the folk-music flavours of the Mediterranean, Eastern Europe and her homeland Serbia. As a songwriter, Dani performs solo and with guest musicians to create a characterful blend of songs and instrumentals. Her lyrics are deeply personal and playful as they unfold through the sounds of smoky chamber pop.
Charley is a freelance cellist based in Wellington, New Zealand. While classically-trained, he continues to develop an eclectic style of playing inspired by world music, folk, indie-pop and jazz, which incorporates improvisation and electronics including looping. While Charley primarily performs in collaboration with bands, composers, solo artists and dancers, he also improvises, records and writes music as a soloist.
